During my last trip to the wine store I spotted a very interesting bottle. Sellers only want to stock wine that they can move, so competition for shelf space can be tough. As a result, marketers for vineyards will pull out all the stops to get a coveted spot on the shelf. If you don't have an established brand name then you will need to devise some other method for getting the attention of the consumer so they will ...

I recently had the pleasure in participating in a wine tasting focused completely on wines produced by Ridge Vineyards. This winery is based in California and focusing on producing single vineyard premium wines. We reviewed the five of their offerings:
2006 Three Valleys
This wine is a brand new release from Ridge Vineyards. It is so new that you can't even find any tasting notes on their website at the time of this writing. This wine is a light ...

Over the last couple of weeks, you might have noticed some connectivity issues with this website. My hosting provider moved its facilities to better/faster/longer lasting facilities (or so they tell me). I hope I won't experience anymore down time due to such situations. While the systems were down I took a minute to re-evaluate my setup. I had been using a Ruby on Rails blog system, but I started to spots its limitations. I decided to move ...

I have pushed out a new version of the Net::CUPS perl module to CPAN. This release includes better internal handling of data structures to prevent segmentation faults under certain conditions. It also adds the state (both numeric and human readable) of a print jobs returned by the getJob() method. - Second Thought: 1998?! Chardonnay?!?! Who the heck brought their cellar remnants to my party?
- Third Thought: I wonder ...

One of the reasons why I enjoy Kansas is that I get to experience the pleasures of all four seasons. Signs of Fall are starting to appear in Kansas. I love the season of Fall. Temperatures start slowly dropping. Leaves begin to fall from the trees. A person can start to wear clothes they have not worn for 6 months. The perfect season of year to start drinking some of the heavier wines stocked in the cellar!

It took me three hours to decide to start the original BottleMonkey.com . Starting a business is a serious decisions and should never be taken lightly. Three hours is probably too short of a time, but I had several things going for me. I had a surplus of cash and was relatively debt free. I had a surplus of time since I was taking a break from dating and was bored with dating scene. I was excited about doing something ...

If you were a member of the online wine community, BottleMonkey.com, I have some bad news for you. The monkey has died. It wasn't a horrible death, but rather a slow decline marked with pangs of regret and periods of unenthusiastic intent. Actually, I guess one might call it a horrible death. I always imagined more blood with a horrible death.
The truth is we didn't have the resources to make it into our dream. It is ...
